"Be the change you want to see in the world."
--Gandhi |
Currently, these are some of my favorite causes:
I ran in The Human Race on Sat. May 8, 1999, at Larkspur Landing in Marin County. The organization for which I have collected funds is the Canal Community Alliance, which provides a variety of services for the Canal neighborhood in San Rafael. Services include translation, day care, after-school programs, English language classes, food distribution, legal and immigration services, and more.
In terms of fundraising, I had my best year ever, thanks to the generosity of all of my sponsors, including many who responded to the email I sent to everybody on my email list. I had 37 sponsors, and pledges ranging from $5 to $100. The total amount raised was $692.50!
As for my results in the race, I ran the 5-mile course in 34:28, a pace of 6:54 per mile. I was very happy about still being able to run under 7 minutes per mile, although I slipped about a minute from last year. I also finished 39th in the race, out of about 200 runners. There were also about 1000 walkers. One colleague from Fair, Isaac, Ed, ran the race in under 31 minutes, and my manager, Luke, ran an impressive 42:58. (But I whooped him! Yeah!)
Thanks to all of my supporters. Your contribution is going to a good cause.
