It was exciting for me to attend my first Presidential nominating convention, as the Libertarian Party held their 2004 National Convention right here in Atlanta. There were three closely matched candidates seeking the nomination, and it took three ballots to arrive at the final selection. For the second year, I walked in the March of Dimes WalkAmerica on Saturday April 17, 2004. My friend Lisa got me involved in it. Lisa got involved because her company's UPS driver is the father of Ethan, who was selected to be the "Ambassador" for the walk last year. I put a photo of my nephew Clark on my sponsor page because he and my other nephew, Mario, and niece, Bianca, are blessed to have good health. Clark has asthma and has had some attacks, but he's doing okay with it. Here's a link to my webpage, although the event has now passed. I'll be looking for contributions again in 2005.

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality.

Here is my report from my participation in this year's walk:

Today was a beautiful day here in Georgia for the March of Dimes WalkAmerica event in Cumming, Georgia. Our group had a great time doing the 4-mile walk at a brisk pace and going out to eat afterwards. I've attached some pictures that prove that I walked ;)

Thanks to all of you for sponsoring me! I raised over $900, or $912.22, to be exact, thanks to one special $22.22 donation (you know who you are).

I got a little more information about Ethan, who was our inspiration, and have attached his picture too:

As many of you know Ethan almost did not make it, he experienced many complications due to being born 3 months early. Because we believe the March of Dimes has done so much for all of our children we have participated each year since Ethan's birth in the March of Dimes WalkAmerica as our way of giving back so all babies can be born healthy. Ethan is now three and a half years old and catching up developmentally to children his age. We appreciate the past generous donations and our team walkers so much. Last year with your help Ethan's Team collected $1,800 dollars and 12 people walked in honor of Ethan. We are truly blessed. Thank you, Jeanne, Greg, Maura and Ethan

I hope you all have a wonderful week ahead. I'm off on my vacation to New Zealand and Tonga starting tomorrow! I will try not to take advantage of your generosity with a lot of requests like this. Like some friends in California who make one particular event their main fund-raiser, in their case, the AIDS Walk, it seems like this one is becoming an annual tradition for me, so you can plan to hear from me again in about 10 months for contributions, and I hope we can keep in touch before then too.
